Meet Don: Truck Driver, Food Enthusiast, Plantable Rebooter

Don is a long-haul truck driver. He heard about Plantable on the radio and decided to do the Reboot. He was starting to gain back some of the weight he had lost on the keto program and wanted to put a stop to it. With the 28-Day Reboot, Don lost 18 pounds and began feeling like his old self - full of energy and lighter. Let’s learn more about Don’s experience.

Julie:  Hi Don. First off, I want to tell you that I have the utmost respect for what you and all the other truck drivers do. 

Don: We love what we do. And it's our way of serving the country. That's the way I look at it.

Julie: Congratulations on completing the 28-Day Reboot program. Can you tell me a bit about how you were feeling before Plantable and what made you decide to try it.

Don: I heard about Plantable on the Tim Ridley Radio Show on Sirius XM Road Dog Radio and hearing Tim speak with you Julie about the program really connected with me. I had lost weight before on the keto diet but was gaining the weight back and wanted to put a stop to that. I knew that keto wasn’t sustainable for me to keep the weight off and really wanted to find something that would.

Julie: What were your results after doing the Reboot and how did you feel?

Don: I lost 18 pounds in the 28 days and began feeling like my old self again. I had more energy and felt lighter. I felt better. Not only did I lose weight, but I've got some skin issues and after following the Reboot program and the suggestions from my coach on building new habits, drinking the water and things like that, my skin issues are not nearly as severe. I saw a big improvement in my skin.

Julie: Tell me what were you most worried about going into the program?

Don: Mostly just not eating what I'm accustomed to which is a lot of meat. I had been on the keto diet for over a year. So I had been doing a lot of smoking ribs, brisket, chicken and stuff like that. Since choosing Plantable and speaking with you, I decided to add salmon to my diet once a week. 

Julie: So here's what I want you to do. Now that you’ve completed the 28-Day Reboot, moving forward, you can integrate having lean meat or fish once a week. And here's one of the reasons why I'm saying that. I just got back from a conference for the American College of Lifestyle Medicine and listened to research about how damaging and detrimental to our health from an inflammation standpoint that red meat can be. I heard one of the physicians from the Cleveland Clinic who said something that just stuck with me. He said if you look at all of the chronic illnesses out there, we know that by a change in diet to a whole food plant based diet not completely eliminating a little fish or little white meat, having that once a week or so, we could eliminate and manage approximately 80% of the chronic illness in our country. 

So I suggest you follow the 85:15 rule. 85% of the time eat super clean veggies and grains and fruits and then enjoy lean meat or fish the rest of the time. 

Julie: ​​What for you was the easiest part?

Don: Oh, just having the meal prep out of the way. That's by far the best thing you know, trucking down the road. You're busy. You don't have a whole lot of extra time, Julie. It's a hard grind out there day to day.

Julie: What would you tell others about the Reboot?

Don: It works and I talk to drivers, you know, every chance I get about it and even encouraged my fleet manager to give it a try. It works. Look at me and you can see the difference in me. There are other ways to get your protein that are plant-based and taste really good. I didn’t feel like I was giving much up once I got used to it and like you’ve told me, I can still eat lean meat and fish, just in moderation. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain, so just give it a try.

Julie: Nothing to lose and everything to gain, I love that!  Now, one of my favorite questions, what was your favorite meal?

Don: The creamy corn chowder is like over the top good. And I really love the zucchini lasagna.

Julie: What are you going to do moving forward?

Don: I'm going to keep ordering the A La Carte box of 12 meals so that I'll have them when I'm on the road to make it easier for me and to keep my weight off.
